Representative Democracy
Just a brief rant about representative democracy:
What do you surrender by sending someone to represent you with full power and authority to make decisions on your behaf? You surrender self-determination.
Direct democracy has never been attempted on a large scale and it is like a child in Africa dying of aids and hunger at the same time."no one wants to touch it.
That is the harsh reality of the direct democracy movement. People must be free and their leaders unafraid of giving up the aristocratic "power" class for direct democracy to be implemented.
There are multiple workable plans to institute direct democracy in a modern industrialized country.
Direct Democracy will also never be perfected. Just like Lance Armstrong's team will never perfect his performance.
The true Education of any country begins with direct democracy. That is when people will be free to enslave themselves.

Don't hold your breath waiting for Congress to give you power. The most evolved project for a hybrid direct/representative democracy is led by former Sen. Mike Gravel. Registered voters can now vote to ratify the National Initiative for Democracy at http://Vote.org, much as citizens ratified the Constitution at the Conventions when the Legislatures wouldn't!
The Swiss vote 3-7 times a year on local, Cantonal and national ballot initiatives. That's a pretty large scale.
